Review #23079429 “The Cottage at Heron Cove is a Cozy waterfront cottage on a Secluded Peninsula ”
Our second visit and looking forward to more!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
We just love staying here! Your cottage is so very well stocked with everything anyone could think of needing, right down to extra directors chairs for sitting on the dock. The condiments in your fridge were perfect for those silly things one doesn’t think to bring from home. We were surprised that you even stocked spices and such in the pantry!
We found absolutely everything to be perfectly comfortable, welcoming and exactly what we would have in our home away from home. But what brings us back most often is the gorgeous scenery and the QUIET!!! Even on the lone rainy day and with our boat motor once again acting up, (thank you Sooo much for your patience and assistance!) our surroundings brought us peace, contentment and relaxation. As I said to a friend, staying here totally beats staring at sweaty, half naked bodies of the furred and unfurred variety Any Day! LOL!
Again, Thank You! Thank You!! THANK YOU!!!

…is the name of my boat and boy did we find peace and serenity at this cottage. This was an ideal spot for my family of 4 for a quiet relaxing vacation with access to lots of adventure. Each day we saw herons, deer, bluebirds, bunny rabbits, ducks, geese and while on the creek saw ospreys and eagles as well. A short drive to Blackwater Refuge were picture perfect photo ops for egrets, herons, eagles and turtles. The surrounding towns of Cambridge, Easton and St. Michael’s offered nice shopping, resturants and ice cream parlors and we enjoyed an evening trip to the boardwalk at Ocean City. But mostly, we enjoyed the water access with crabbing from the dock or off our boat and fishing in the bay for bluefish and rockfish. Our boys also mastered the wakeboard in the river and we only saw one other boat on the creek whole time we were on vacation which made for a nice quiet time. The cottage was clean and well equipped and the owner was super nice. He greeted us on the second day after we settled in to provide a map of the area and point out some interesting historical sites which we enjoyed visiting. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a fairly private quiet getaway in a small cottage updated with modern conveniences. We’ve already booked our return for 2013! Joe, Newton, NJ

Great Getaway

Left on Aug 5, 2010 for a stay in Jul 2010

The Cottage at Heron Cove was everything we had hoped for. The house was immaculate when we arrived. The yard is humongous. We don’t have kids but remarked that it will be a great place for our future grandkids to run and play. The house was well appointed, right down to spices and olive oil in the kitchen, toilet paper and paper towels, etc. We loved fishing from the dock, and some mornings and evenings the water was like glass. We got some great sunrise photos. We also loved the hot tub, and there is a great gas grill. The location was very secluded and idyllic. A couple of days we didn’t even leave the house, but just hung out on the screened in porch or on the lawn in the shade. We also ventured out. Took a couple of scenic drives. Went on a riverboat ride one day at Suicide Bridge. Had a nice lunch and visited the Maritime Museum at St. Michael’s, a short 30 minute drive away. Finally, our “landlord” Bob, who also owns the next closest house, couldn’t have been a more gracious host. After I made the reservation I asked him what kinds of things there are to do in the area. “Plenty!” he said, and he proceeded to tell me a few. Then a couple of days later I received a big envelope filled with visitor’s brochures. What a thoughtful gesture! He also stopped by our first day there to see if we had any questions and to make sure we had everything we needed. And he called later in the week just to check in. We would not hesitate to stay there again!

The Cottage vacation

Left on Jul 27, 2011 for a stay in Jul 2011

The cottage was perfect. It was nicely decorated and everything that you need to live was available. All of the appliances were new and worked great. The A/C was very cool on the really hot July days. The screened in porch was spectacular at night for board games and adult beverages. The house is very secluded and was a perfect relaxing get away. We travelled with our two boy 15 & 13. They had plenty of room for exploring and sporting activities. We all enjoyed the boat dock. The boys were very successful crabbing off the dock. I would highly recommend it to any one.

Beyond Expectations

Left on May 19, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed here for 4 days recently and had a wonderful time. The photos on the site, although beautiful, do not do the cottage and the surroundings justice. The inside of the cottage is well appointed with every modern convenience, very nicely furnished (again the photos don’t do it justice) and comfortable, beautiful hardwood pine floors, new appliances, comfortable beds. And very very clean! The outside views and the grounds are spectacular. Every morning we sat on the porch with a cup of coffee, watching the sun rise and seeing deer and rabbits in the yard. In the evenings after a day of bike riding we had a glass of wine in the same spot. The hot tub was fantastic. My only tiny complaint was that the porch furniture could have been more comfortable, but then again we may never have wanted to get out and explore. A hammock would have been wonderful in that setting! Recommend Kool’s Seafood on Washington St in Cambridge for crabmeat and steamed crabs and rockfish. Delicious! Anyway, we are still having withdrawal from being at the cottage and hope to be back soon. This was one of the best rental experiences we’ve ever had.

Country Cottage

Left on Oct 29, 2015 for a stay in Oct 2015

The Cottage at Heron Cove was absolutely wonderful. I visited in October, and took great pleasure in watching autumn leaves scurry along before the breeze. Also, it was quite enjoyable to see and hear the Canada geese that flew low over the house every morning. Great blue herons could be seen feeding in the area, as well as many different species of songbirds To describe the cottage, I use a word that could be considered old-fashioned; “charming”. The knotty-pine flooring was beautiful, and the place was quite snug on those chilly, windy evenings. My vacation at The Cottage was one of the most restful, therapeutic trips that I’ve ever taken, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.

Fabulous Week

Left on May 20, 2016 for a stay in May 2015

We spent a fabulous relaxing week at Heron Cove and loved it so much that we are returning for a week this year. The cottage itself is immaculately clean and well-equipped, the setting is quite idyllic, the crabbing great fun and great eating, and the area very interesting to explore. Blackwater Refuge is really amazing and we visited it twice to get both early morning and early evening views of the wildlife, we’ll definitely drive thru again this year. Thanks, Bob & Joan!

A Great Place to Relax

The Cottage has been our vacation get-away now for the last 6 years and we are planning to return again this year. Our children (one in college and one post college) still love it there and still join us for vacation. If you enjoy peace and quiet, like to fish and crab and like to have some room to roam, this is the place for you! There are only about 8 houses on the cove and rarely did we even see a boat. You don’t need a boat to enjoy the water as there is a nice pier. The area is great for canoeing or kayaking as well. The cottage is located away from traffic which makes it perfect for running and biking. Cambridge is only 10 minutes away and easy to get to so if you forget anything it’s an easy tri

Excellent place to crab and enjoy nature at this secluded paradise.

If you enjoy fishing, crabbing, kayaking, smores by campfire, wildlife and peace and quiet this is the place for couples and families. Additionally, close to town, supermarket and other nearby activities and dining out. Exceptional service from Joan and her husband. Always available to answer questions any time. My family has been going here for 7 years now and will continue to do so. Joan C,  PA

The Locastro’s cottage is truly a gift! The cottage, the grounds, the creek, and the entire surroundings demand nothing from anyone, instead, they are there to remind you just how lovely and simple life can be and that it is to be enjoyed. Thank you, Joan and Bob!

This beautifully situated property feels exactly like what a home away from home should–except it’s better. The cottage is comfortable inside, and lacks for nothing. Outside you have a range of opportunities for simply sitting and enjoying the amazing views, or frolicking in the water or yard. The house sits in a relatively remote area so you have ample privacy, but is close enough to the restaurants and shops in town that a couple of trips in a day (15 mins each way) aren’t cumbersome at all. The house is great for a simple retreat for one or two people–or for a small family. The owners are very lovely people–they responded to questions within a very short period of time and recommended places to visit or eat in the area. We can’t wait to return.

We had two amazing weeks at this lovely cottage on Gary Creek, just off the Little Choptank River within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It was actually much nicer than the photos! Very quiet, clean and private, and the owners were very helpful every step of the way! Easy to work with and we especially enjoyed canoeing up to the historic windmill and sailing from the dock. The fishing and crabbing were great and we saw numerous birds, frogs, turtles and even a wild turkey! Our six year old had the time of his life, we even made the hot tub into a cold tub which he enjoyed daily. The perfect place to relax and enjoy nature.

We loved this charming home – beautiful views from almost every window, and everything to help us settle in easily and relax was waiting for us. The dock lets you really experience the changing river, and we did see a blue heron flying low across the water on our 3rd day! The only unpleasant part was leaving.

Wow!!! If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable, relaxing vacation cottage, look no further! This was one of the most relaxing vacations we’ve ever had! We spent each morning on the wrap-around porch with our coffee watching the sun come up over the water. The only sounds were the fish jumping and the birds singing. We wanted to try our hand at crabbing and were not disappointed! Bob and Joan not only provided everything you could need in the cottage but also had everything needed for crabbing. Even the bait! If you’re looking for a fun day trip, the Boardwalk at Ocean City was an easy, short drive. The beach there was so clean and beautiful! Although, one day away from this “piece of Heaven” was enough for us. So.. grab your fishing gear, a good book, and great company and head to this beautifully kept property! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Bob and Joan for sharing this property with us! We will definitely be back!

If our family had a getaway house, we’d want it to be like the Cottage at Heron’s Cove. It was comfortable, well organized, and nicely outfitted and decorated without being stuffy or spare. Everything was very clean and well kept. From the comfortable bedrooms, well-stocked kitchen, and movies and games inside to the fire pit, hot tub, and large, level waterfront lawn to play on outside, we were all happy with our early spring getaway. The view is lovely, and the location quiet. We brought our bikes, and had a few nice rides on calm, flat roads. Bob was accessible and helpful, showing real hospitality from afar. It was a perfect getaway for our family!

The Cottage at Heron Cove is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty of the region. The Cottage is comfortable, clean, well-maintained, peaceful, and has everything that you could possibly need. The views from each and every window are incredible (like an artist’s painting) – words cannot describe the beauty of the surroundings when actually stepping outside! Bob and Joan are very helpful, and clearly take great care of this gem. Like other guests have written in their comments, we absolutely did not want to leave…and promise we will be back!

This awesome cottage is tucked back into Gary Creek off of the Little Choptank away from all the boat traffic. No noise or traffic at all. Very peaceful. The hospitality from Bob and family was top notch and the cottage exceeded our expectations. The cottage is well equipped and extremely clean. They even have everything you need to catch, cook, and eat crabs. Watching the herons and ospreys enjoying the morning sunrise was truely amazing. Crabbing and fishing were also good. We caught a few dozen crabs (keepers) during our stay and many spots, crokers, and skates. We (wife, 3 kids, and I) loved every minute of our stay. We will return.

The Cottage is truly a place of peace and beauty where you can relax and unplug. Serene and scenic, I found it hard to leave the property and spent lots of time curled up with a good book and my coffee. But we did venture out and had lovely bike rides in Blackwater and the surrounding areas. Also visited Cambridge, Oxford, Easton and St. Michaels and found lovely shops and great restaurants. We were happy each evening though to return “home” to the Cottage and soak in the hot tub and listen to the frogs. A truly special place that exceeded our expectations.

What a perfect little cottage. It was truly one of the most relaxing vacations that my family and I have ever taken. My husband and I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old and I have to say that they didn’t tell us they were bored once! They loved running around the property and fishing from the dock. I personally loved enjoying my coffee on the large screened in porch in the morning and having a few late nights in the hot tub while the girls slept soundly right inside the window by the hot tub. My husband spent an entire day on the dock catching a few fish and crabs that we cooked up for dinner. If you like seclusion, this is your place. The cottage was also stocked with just about everything that you could think of to make your travel as easy as possible. Appliances were updated and everything worked wonderfully. We really didn’t want to come home:) This is a place that we will return in the future.

My wife and I just enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the cottage. It is very cozy, clean, and most importantly private. The views are wonderful and the hot tub is also a an excellent amenity. The place sits well back off the road and the only sounds are those of the local wildlife and the water. The cabin was well stocked with all the things one might need. I would recommend arriving with plenty of food, wine, and drink because once you settle in you will not want to leave. The owners are wonderful to work with and we plan to return very soon.

From the moment you step outside the car, you know you won’t want to leave! A hidden gem, back a lane overlooking the creek. With a screened in porch and a dock for relaxing you will find yourself basking outdoors. Inside you’ll find the Cottage is equipped to handle the most complex of recipes, yet everything has it’s place! You’ll immediately feel at home! Cycling through Blackwater and the surrounding area is wonderful. Turn down any lane and you won’t be disappointed! Visiting during the Fall Warbler Migration was a treat, the trees and bushes were ablaze with flashes of yellow and green every evening. The Cottage is a wonderful get-a-way! I’m looking forward to next year already! Thanks, Bob and Joan!

This cottage was absolutely lovely and had everything we needed for a comfy stay. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have had in a long time. We saw a Mommy Turkey on Saturday morning with 9 babies, they popped out of the pines while we were having breakfast. We enjoyed kayaking and watching the blue heron and eagles flying above. We also had an otter cross over Morris Neck Road in front of us….. couldn’t believe it, in fact we thought it was a dog at first. The hot tub was so relaxing, especially in the evening under the stars. This is the perfect spot for anyone seeking nature and serenity. It is truly an amazing vacation cottage. The owners are very easy to work with and take pride in caring for this property. I can’t wait to return next year!

This was a great vacation. The house was perfect for our family of four. It was so peaceful and relaxing, and perfect for our 2 young sons (4 1/2 and almost 3). The boys enjoyed crabbing and fishing off the deck, and of course the hot tub! We also went to the blackwater refuge, and went to the boardwalk in Ocean City for an evening. This was a perfect vacation for everyone, we were able to relax at the cottage, but if we felt like going out and doing something there were plenty of options. The most memorable part of our trip was catching, cooking, and eating the blue crab. Our 4 year old is still talking about the tractor ride that Bob, the owner, took him on when he stopped by.

What a gorgeous spot. The house was perfect for a girls weekend of cycling the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. After 70 miles in the saddle, it felt great to sit in the hot tub and watch bald eagles fly down creek while sipping champagne. We thought we couldn’t possibly ask for more when the owner’s son showed up and offered us a sunset cruise on the water. We are definitely planning a trip back! One word of warning, when you get to the fork in the dirt road, you are in the right place, just go left 🙂

Our one-week stay at The Cottage couldn’t have been better. The house is immaculate (and for those staying in the summer, the central air conditioning works beautifully); the kitchen very well stocked; the screened porch a delight for reading and eating (there is also a picnic table outside); the grounds beautifully kept (with no mosquitoes and an occasional visit by a blue heron). The scenery is wonderful. The Cottage is peaceful and quiet but close enough to easily get to town and for other points of interest (like Black Water Wildlife Refuge). We went crabbing off the dock (and actually caught crabs – a delicious treat) and thanks to the binoculars left for guests, went birding and saw a bald eagle. Thank you, Bob and Joan, for a wonderful stay

This is a beautiful little cottage situated on a very quiet cove. During the week we spent at the cottage, ours was the only boat we saw near the cottage; water depth is more than adequate for a midsized powerboat and the private dock was a perfect place to tie up. We only saw some of the local residents while traveling the local country roads. There was almost no noise from the neighbors, who were quite some distance away. The property is quite expansive; it takes about 5 minutes to walk from the cottage to the mailbox on the road. The cottage is amazingly well equipped with virtually anything we could have asked for, and then some. The screened in porch was very welcoming at anytime of the day. Sunrises and sunsets are a beautiful experience from your vantage point on the porch or even the dock. We would certainly recommend this cottage to a couple wanting a quiet time “away from it all”.

This cottage was beautifully secluded, with wonderful views of the inlet from the bay. If you enjoy feeling properly away from the rest of the world then this is a fantastic place for you! The cottage was warm, clean, nicely decorated, and fully equipped with all the appliances and utensils you could want. Having said that, the location is close enough to Cambridge that it’s easy to go to the store or find a restaurant. But the best part was definitely the hot tub on the deck. It was so relaxing to sit out under the stars in the warm water – I could have spent hours there! Given that we stayed in February, I can’t talk about the AC or mosquitos, but if you want a quiet, comfortable winter getaway, then this is a fantastic place.
